Life Jacket Inflatable – Why Boaters Should Wear an Inflatable PFD

National Safe Boating Week kicks off every year at the end of May, continuing into the Memorial Day Weekend. In May 2010, boating professionals and community members gathered on the front lawn of Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks. Each person wore a bright yellow life jacket (inflatable) to foster awareness on the importance of these devices. Below are some of the reasons why you need a life jacket (inflatable):

  1. They will keep you safe if you have a boating accident and you end up in the water. This type of life jacket (inflatable) is less bulky, and won’t get in the way of normal activities. This means you can keep it on at all times while boating, and fill it with air once you hit the water. Modern inflatable life jackets have lifesaving features such as interlocking but asymmetrical bladders, which will flip you onto your back if you’re unconscious and in a facedown position.

  1. It’s the law. At least it is for children under 12 in some states. Children should use a life jacket (inflatable or otherwise, any neoprene life jacket is good) even in the pool. Water wings and swimming aids such as inner tubes don’t prevent drowning. Be mindful that even an infant life jacket is no substitute for adult supervision of children around water. What’s good for the children is also good for you as an adult, so be an example to the kids and always wear a lifejacket.

  1. They will keep you safe when you participate in water sports. The buoyancy and light design of inflatable lifejackets are great for water sport activities such as kayaking, body boarding, surfing, water skiing etc. Inflatable life jackets offer the increased style, comfort and versatility identified as critical by boaters, fishermen and other water-related sports and industry users.
